The Stars and Stripes American Flag
The American flag of the United States contains 13 alternating red and white horizontal stripes with a blue rectangle in the canton which contains 50 small white five pointed stars. The 13 stripes of the American flag to honor the original 13 colonies, and 50 stars representing the 50 states in the Union. Over time more stars were added as more countries joined the Union.
The American flag is flown continuously in some places even the White House in Washington DC, and Marine Corps War Memorial in Rosslyn near Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Many U.S. citizens see the American flag stand in the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the freedoms and rights in the country in general, as well as previous victims of the war to protect those freedoms.
